Will lotion bars last if left out of the container?

I was wondering if lotion bars would dry out if left out of the container and placed on a decorative dish/soap dish. That would make them really easy to use if placed by the sink where you could moisturize after washing your hands. One of my customers was asking about this and said she wasn't near as willing to use the bar if she had to open up the tin and get it out. I think it is a neat idea and was wondering if you all had any input.

It would attract every nat, hair or speck of lint in your home & become nasty very quickly. what about a roll-up or push-up container?
