Will dried flowers, herbs, etc. turn brown on TOP of soap?

I have seen a lot of pictures of CP soap with dried flowers, herbs, etc. on the tops for decoration.

I know those things will turn brown or black if they're mixed into the soap, but if they're sprinkled on top, will they still? Do those of you that make soaps like this sprinkle the stuff on right after you get the soap in the mold... wait a bit... or stick it on after it's cured somehow?

I want to try this but I don't want to waste my lavender if it's not going to work.
