I had to go to the chemist today to get a my contraception pill prescription filled. While I was there I spoke to the girl behind the counter about the cold/flu that I am suffering with at the moment, on top of hayfever. I have been into this same chemist twice in the last two weeks to buy hayfever medication. The first one didn't help my symptoms at all, so I went back about a week later and showed them the one I bought, and that I needed something different. So they gave me something that had a different active ingredient or something. So here we are about two weeks later and I still have sinus trouble, itchy watery eyes, yadayada, so I took the two boxes of medication in there, and asked could I "Please" buy something that is going to help relieve my symptoms because I am quite miserable...so she goes behind the counter and comes back with "chemist brand hayfever sinus and cold tablets. Bingo, sounds great. Except the active ingredient in these is pseudoephedrine....so I had to stand there and give my drivers licence, fill out a questionairre, have all my details entered in to the computer and cross checked with other pharmacies in the area to make sure that I haven't already been somewhere and bought the same medication. I asked the girl (nicely) why all of this was necessary and she told me it's because drug dealers buy massive quantities of cold/flu medications and go and grind it all up with something else to make drugs. Great. So now the simple act of going to the chemist to get some relief is not so simple. Meanwhile I was standing there sick as a dog wrestling a three year old while I waited for them to do all their checks (about 20 mins) and the methadone patients were sitting in the chairs waiting for their daily dose.
Arrgh I was angry.
I'm sorry if I've offended anyone, but I'm sick and a bit cranky and didn't feel like being treated like I was a druggie just cos I want to clear my sinuses.
At least I'll know next time!
Edited to say no I don't have swine flu!

Yep crazy :( cuase the druggies make damm hard for US ppl that need it for our suffering

Great you don't have the Piggy Flu  , getting scary though :( but no one died here in Oz?? well hope not

Kristie

Hope you get well soon :)

It's much the same here. A few idiots ruin it for the rest of us. The last thing I want to do is be hassled by a clerk at the pharmacy when my head feels like it's going to explode.

They make crystal meth with it. You'd think this procedure would cut down on the meth labs but they bust one somewhere just about every day seems like. They must have a tag team buying cold pills or something.

Back before they started all this rigamarole a friend of mine worked in a grocery store in Chicago and he said they'd come in there at night, grab a hand full af medicine and run kamakazie style out the door. It became a game to see who could tackle and take them down before they got away.

I was trying so hard to not be rude to the girl behind the counter, I know that she is just following the rules and doing her job, but the whole thing annoys me, and when you're feeling really sick and then they humiliate you on top of it, well it tests you that's for sure!

I have to take narcotics for pinched nerves in my neck . I get very severe headaches. The looks I get sometimes from a new pharmacist that doesn't know me , just make me want to scream . Then they proceed to tell me all about the dangers of taking morphine etc. I want to say , thank you so much for the info, but this "drug" is what keeps me from barfing all day from the pain , or jumping off a bridge because I just can't take the pain anymore. It really pizzes me off to no end.

The same drug makers are the ones that have driven soapmakers to the internet to buy lye, and part of the reason that the price has increased from what it used to be when you could buy it at the grocery store.

Tell me about it! I'm young (in my early 20s), and I live in an area somewhat notorious for meth production. You wouldn't believe the looks I got going into Ace hardware to buy nothing but lye...

Before that, I went to lowes and asked a worker if they stocked it. She said no and asked what I wanted it for. I told her I was making soap, and she looked me up and down and said "Yeah, what kinda soap?"

i told the ace that supplies me that once i have a good batch i would bring it in for them to try out. they even offered to order me some especially if i want it. once i get a chance to make a lot of soaps i will take them up on it and see if they will let me buy wholesale.
