I can figure out why I am so afraid of using fragrance oil? I am highly sensitive to FO that I don't feel comfortable with. I can use perfume, no problem, some body oils (thats when I start to tremble) but trusting myself to scent a product....

Last week I did a melt and pour project that lit my house up. It ended up being a richly scented soap that everyone liked BUT I hated the smell.

This week I measured out 4 oz...and only used about 1.5 oz...again, I have this fear...

I brought some handmade soap to compare to the lush products I like and my own creations, Lush products are very strongly scented and I am comforatble with most of the scents, a artisan soap I purchased was nicely scented and I was comfortable....BUT another artisan soap I purchased was a thick, rich candy colored richly scented soap...and it made me a little dry...

Is it mental, I like my first HP batch with no scent at all but I know that may not make a marketable product...

any thoughts?

Perfume contains fragrance oil. It's probably about 30% fragrance oils & 70% perfumers alchol, so if you are wearing perfume, you are wearing fragrance oil.

Not all fragrances agree with all people. I can't be around florals, they give me a headache that sometimes can last for 2-3 days.

I can not tolerate perfumes, I always thought it was the fo but after working w/ fos in his biz, I was able to discover it is actually the perfumers alcohol that makes me ill.

Phillysoaps,

Fragrance is a very personal thing. What my nose smells in an fo may be completely different from what you are smelling. (we are, after all, working with slightly different equipment!)

You don't have to scent your soaps. Some folks prefer them unscented. In fact, you can great a clean, natural smell from using a recipe with cocoa butter. Why not "dip your toes in the water first" by not being concerned about the addition of an fo, then spend some time researching the scent review board for fo suggestions? Look for some "lighter scents".

A few years ago my husband bought me some Obsession perfume for Christmas. After putting it on, I started to feel sick to my stomach, but thought that it was from overeating  .

The next day I tried it again. Nope still felt nauseous. Took it back the next day. I don't wear perfume anymore, but like most scented soaps. Go figure.
Dont' be worried about getting it right the first time. Experimentation is part of the fun! You shouldn't be too hard on yourself!
