I am looking for the producer of Mica colours for soap - need to see if they have distributors or agents in SA - I can already see myself objecting to paying inflated prices for colours from the shops.

I would start off checking out make up manufacturers. I think soap making colors are probably an offshoot of that. Of course, you will also have to test.

You can also look into food dyes. I don't mean the little bottles at the grocery store - I mean the powders. In the US they're often call FD&C colors. Be aware - they are POTENT and will stain your tile, grout, etc if you aren't very VERY careful. They aren't all CP appropriate - blue will turn to purple, for example.

You're also going to run into the possibility of having to purchase large amounts (multiple lbs) instead of ounces. As a beginner it may be cost prohibitive.

i have found a shop that can sell me kilograms (2.2 pounds) for a reasonable price which will allow me time to find my own manufacturers. Average price per Kg (1.1 pound) is ZAR R1 200.00 (88.00 USD) - is this about an average price?

Can get a pound here between 50-70.00. It would take me years to go through a pound though. I purchase 2-4 ounces and it lasts me forever. I have too many colors to even think of buying a pound or more of each. But if it works for you. Go for it. I make 700 bars or more a year.
