I guess I must be turning into a soap making addict, even after just 4 batches!!

I was at my daughter's babysitting yesterday and noticed in her pantry that she had a can of coconut milk. So, of course that got me thinking- what about coconut milk in soap? I know goat's milk is used, but I just love the idea of coconut milk!!!

So, had anyone here used it? What type of oils did you use with it? Is it as nice as goat's milk in soap?

Must go by some today if I hear good things about it! :D

Probably everyone on this forum has used coconut milk. I love it and prefer it over GM mainly because I get a whiter bar of soap.
You can use it as all or part of your liquid or superfat with it like I do.

Since you brought this up....I would like to know if anyone out there has used it as 100% as their liquid and how they liked it.

Can't wait to see your pictures Kerye:)

I put some in a batch of lard and coconut oil soap that I made a few days ago (so I can't really say how it turned out). It was some frozen coconut milk left over from another soap, but Ican't remember which one.

I added it in the form of frozen cubes to the rain water. When I had mixed the lye in and was letting it cool, the solid part of the milk formed a crust on the lye water! I mashed it up and stirred it in, and there were little white globules floating around in the soap as it was tracing. (don't suppose that will have a bad effect on the soap, but just wondered if it would have been better to do a strong lye solution with the water and top up with coconut milk at trace.

There was a bit of yellow colouring of the water, but nothing like when I used goats milk, that turned orangey yellow.

Just used it in a batch for the first time last week (as a superfat); so anxious for the cure to take place so I can test it out.

i used a 4 oz coc milk and 5 water, it is cured and iam using tonight, so i will let ya know! IM curious to know if it changes anything, also i bought my can at asian store for 99 cents, compared to health strore for 10!

I used coconut milk in a recipe some months ago. I froze the milk to a slushy first. I added the caustic soda and stirred for a while and then walked away. Came back in a few minutes and the mix had become really, really thick (the spoon was standing up). I stirred vigorously and added to the oils anyway (no fragrance, no colour). At this stage I was worried as it behaved so differently to GM.

When I went to cut the soap up (probably after 24 hours), it had a green line inside it and didn't smell very nice at all. I figured I'd be throwing the whole lot out so I put it out of my sight and forgot about it.

I found it and tested it a few months later and ....

I love it. Green line gone, goodness knows what that meant. Smells like soap. Absolutely beautiful on the skin. All good.

I didnt notice too much difference in my soap? I dont know if i will do again.
