So, made some castile soap in January. All olive oil, madder root to color it pink. Then a few months later I made another soap, used annatto seeds to infuse the oil to a cheddar cheese color lol

They have deleoped these large white spots on them. They arent soft or smell bad. Just weird. Anyone have that happen? The recipe listed is for the orange soap.

The soaps are stored at higher heat and we do have high humidity. No dos on any of the soaps yet or the ones I reserve for my time test. Made a small rack using 2x4 and wooden dowels. I have some insulation in the window so its at least dark.

Not the best pic, but some have multiple white circles on them.

Nothing comes to mind as a definite explanation. You didn't say if you only used water for the water-based liquid or if there are any other additives, and that info would be helpful.

Only thing that comes to mind at this point is sometimes people get white spots in the colored portions of their soap if they make the lye solution with something like full-fat milk. The milkfat reacts with the lye, making clumps of white soap. When this lye solution is added to the rest of the fats and colorants, the white curds stay white surrounded by the colored portions of soap.

Undissolved crystals of salt can form white spots something like this.

Or ingredients that aren't fully melted or otherwise fully incorporated into the soap batter.

Thank you for the reply. I used disstilled water as the liquid and I didn't use any additives in either batch.

I hadn't considered that with the full fat milk, guess thats why some people strain their milk soltuion?

I soaped at 120 for the castile and if I am remembering correctly 110 with the orange soap.
