Any natural ways of making soap clear or at least translucent? I've heard about using alcohol, is this the only way? And if so, how much?

I'm also curious about how to get white soap. What I've made so far is kind of a creamy butter color.

yes you can make clear soap - alcohol is the key. i think someone described their efforts on this board somewhere.

white soap - well you really will need to choose your oils to accomplish that, as many will result in a creamy or even yellowish soap. coconut makes for a very white soap, as does lard. canola = yellowish.

somewhere out there is a link to single oil soaps with pictures to give you some more ideas.

titanium dioxide can also be used.

From what little info I found online, seems like the hassle of making transparent soap isn't worth the results.... I think the effect I'm really looking for is just translucency, not really transparency....

I have read that tallow = white soap, but I'm not too keen on using animal fats in my soap....!

I've read people on here saying that they got a white soap from 100% olive oil, how is that possible?? Olive oil is yellow!

Olive oil does in fact make a very white soap. Seriously.

Extra Virgin is a bit iffy - sometimes you end up with a slight green tinge, and Pomace can leave it a bit... taupe, but regular olive oil makes WHITE soap.

For what it is worth I made a laundry stain stick using just CO and lard and those things came out the whitest shade of white possible. I don't know if the T.R.P.S. I added had anything to do with that or not.
