I make a whipped butter with mango, aloe, shea and oils. I soften the butters a bit in the microwave, whip and then add the oils and whip some more. I end up with some bits of butter that are not whipped, just little firm flakes.

Not softening enough?

Should I whip the mango before I add the shea?

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I think you might get better results if you used a double boiler instead of the microwave.

Can you explain the reason behind your thought , please? Thanks.

Toni, try having everything at about the same temp, or at least room temp or above, when you combine.

Also, could it be grittiness forming from the butter crystalizing? How long before it's apparent to you?

And is it aloe oil? aloe butter? or a water based aloe juice or gel?

When you use a microwave, the heat is not distributed evenly so it may have something to do with the butter not blending well.

Its aloe butter, so not a water/oil issue. The flakes are in there right away--it does not feel like some shea that I had that went gritty. I think it is just some butter that does not whip. My butters are at "room temp"--but in a cold basement room, so maybe the answer would be to bring it upstairs to let it get softer before I whip. It could be that the microwave was not heating it evenly, but I think a double boiler would probably melt it too much before it softens the inside of the mango butter.

thanks for your help and thoughts
