Hi everyone, I'm ready to experiment with colors. Any advice on what works best for CP or HP? I'm considering fd&c powered food grade colorants from lemalange.com but they don't give any info in regards to color morphing or bleeding.

If they are food grade, then they will most likely not be able to take the high ph of cp. They don't list the ingredients on the colorants so, I can't be sure.

I prefer to use oxides and ultramarines in cp. They usually don't morph, fade, and can withstand the ph of cp. Some micas don't morph in CP or HP, but many do.
If you're looking for some places in Michigan or close to Michigan that sell some pretty good colorants, here's some:
Go Planet Earth (Michigan)

Natures Garden Candles (Ohio)

Bitter Creek North (Wisconsin)

Yep, there's a lot out there. Besides all the oxides, ultramarines, micas, etc, then there's clays, herbal powders and herbal infusions. So many possibilities ;)

I really like though when suppliers, like the ones I listed, list which colorants are stable in high ph and don't bleed. So helpful.

The Convservatorie http://theconservatorie.com/Happy_Hour_ ... 9_199.html are good ones, thats what I typically use- Most of them are stable, the pink/reds are not they morph but the blue/green/orange/yellow and purple are fine

TBK Trading is another good place http://www.tkbtrading.com/- this is where I get my pinks and reds

If your looking for vegan colors, I would not suggest Bitter Creeks SoapBerry colors, they contain Shallac, but if not Ive seen some gorgeous soaps done with them.

I also have Bramble Berrys labcolors, which are also nice but they bleed after awhile.

Thanks HutCar92! I want to place an order this week so I'm going to check out those links now along with the ones Genny listed.

Personally, I am a big fan of TKB Trading. They have a huge assortment of stable colorants for CP. I also do some MP, and I have many nonbleeding micas from them.

I was checking out all of the sites listed yesterday & I think Im going to order from goplanet.com & tkbtrading.com. Goplanet is in my state so I might get faster shipping & I like that you can customize the samplers from tkbtrading.

I often see people mention that they buy a lot of their colorants from NG, but it doesn't seem like they sell that many other than the liquid fun soap colorants. Am I missing other colorants? I see they also offer natural colorants, but only two options for micas. Do they sell other options for colorants and I'm just missing it?

Besides the fun soap colorants (which is a combination of ultramarines, oxides, micas), they also have their Da Bomb soap dyes (I haven't tried those yet), there's their soap dye for MP, then they've got some clays & herbal powders.

It's not a lot, but I honestly try to stick to the more basic colors and then mix my own to get different shades and colors. Like ultramarine blue & yellow yelp, makes a very pretty green. NG's Ultramarine Blue & GPE's Pearl Pink make a very nice lavender purple.

Ah ok wasn't sure if the fun soap colorants could be used in CP or if it was just for MP. The Da Bomb is for MP or they have another colorant for MP? I bought the primary colors of their liquid colorant that they will no longer be carrying because the manufacturer is going out of business - it says that these aren't good in CP. I'm also not sure if they bleed or not (no note of this on the site).

Buying just the primary colors and possibly some variations of other colors and then mixing them together to get your own color definitely sounds like a good idea to me!! Thanks for the tip
