I am a bit confused as to what calculator I should go by. I have the book - Soap Naturally - and just ran the recipes by both SoapCalc and SoapmakerCA and all 3 have different lye/water to each other. Which do I go by? Please help :?:

No idea which one is the "best", but I always use soapcalc and my soap turns out fine!

I use both soapcalc and also purchased soapmaker. It seems calculators are a bit different in their calcs, but not enough to make much of a difference. It is all how they have their SAP value set up, I believe.

I have had no problems with either soapcalc or soapmaker. I purchased soapmaker and love it because you can save and print your recipes, organize them. It will figure out the cost per bar/batch, etc. I still use both, though, but stick with soapmaker for the most part.

HTH

I have an Excel spreadsheet that I use from http://www.millersoap.com and I also use soapcalc. They numbers are trivially different.....like SimplyE said....not enough to make a difference in the finished product.

I need to try Soapmaker.

I had the trial version a couple of years ago and LOVED it, but never bit the bullet and bought the application. I really think I will this year. The organization of it alone is worth it, not to mention all the other bells and whistles it has... :)
I think it's the Pro version that has the inventory module and that's what I'm most excited about. :)

I downloaded the trial for Soapmaker and once I tired it I bought it right away. I have never regretted it. I love the program. I incorporated all my ingredients and costs into the program and then add my recipes and it caluclates what my costs are and you can play with your recipes and it will recaluculate everything for you. It also came with a few recipes.

Yep, I'm definitely getting it this year. :)

I tried Soapmaker, I like the fact that it can calculate price per bar, but I'm sticking with soapcalc it has most oils listed that I'd likely use, I can flip back and forth to look at the soap quality numbers and determine if soaps combined % of oil meets the qualities that I like the end result to have, plus you can't beat that it's free.

I use Soapmaker exclusively and if you go to the website there is a spot that you can add more oil SAP Values to the program which I did. I bought the professional one because it also tracks my inventory, costs per bar and in the inventory section I make notes as to what happened with that batch so I can adjust as I go along.

So does the 'bought' version include more oils than the trial? Cause I am really liking the trial version and want to buy it but the US$ for us (in Aus) is terrible atm.

Mine has 54 different oils already and you can always add as many more as you want.
