I would just like to preface this post with : I have been making soap for a few years now, i am not looking for any sort of get rich quick scheme, i make soap because i love doing so, not to make money, lol.

I've gotten a lot more confident with my soaps. I have couple of base recipes that i love and some go to scent and colour combos that people seem to like.

I've been thinking of casually selling my soap for a while now. Nothing serious, we have a small farmers market in town that only charges 10 dollars per fair you attend.

My mom works in an office that is literally at least 90% female, most of which have worked with her for 20+ years. From all the secret santa's they have done over the years, i can tell they are very fond of gift basket type things items(which soaps and bath bombs fall into so nicely)

Just selling to them, my family and maybe a farmers market do you think insurance is needed? All it takes is one person scary as that seems.

I think you answered your own question with your last sentence. Do you want to take the chance ?

All it takes is one person scary as that seems.

I agree with the others. I wouldn't sell even 1 bar without insurance. It's a totally different thing when you are just giving it away but once you think about selling insurance is a must before doing so.

Lucky Star I feel your pain! I've been making and giving soap for many years. NEVER, EVER wanted to sell. It's a hobby something I enjoy, I don't want a job! But just in the last few months people have been really on me about wanting to buy my soap. The insurance I found is $400 a year. That's a lot of selling just to pay insurance. So, so far I just keep giving it away! Because like you said it only takes one.
