Does anyone play around using Soapcalc? I used to add and subtract various oils/butters trying to find that "perfect" recipe.
Yes, it's awesome! Make sure you keep a copy of the recipes your create and take good notes about how it turned out.

Sal butter is more expensive then Shea or Cocoa butter now. It wasn't always like that, years ago it was cheaper. Not sure what happened but it must have boomed.

I too don't look too hard at the Soapcalc numbers (Not talking about recipe lye/water amounts). With slight changes with the same oils or oils with relatively same property numbers.... it doesn't help me. Now if you are changing out different oils then yes I look but still it doesn't tell me what my skin does or seeing how the bubbles do.

Take CO and PKO, looks almost the same in the numbers game. But how can you really see how many bubbles it will give you at a certain % with your other oils without trying it out ?
Plus your skin may not like CO.
Same with OO and RBO.

Best bet if you are looking for a main recipe is to make Several different recipes with the oils you want. Wait the cure and test. That way you will see what works and what doesn't. I did that the beginning of this year (end of last ) and it has saved me so much time.

And this my new soapie friends is why we wait for the cure then test usage on the skin. A week of cure is Way different then a 4-6 week cure or 12-30 week cure (lol)
