I have been obsessed lately (well, haven't we all!) and have now just about run out of coconut oil. I'll order more soon as I want to get some new scents as well, but what can I do to feed my habit in the mean time?

I was thinking about doing a castille bar and that's easy as I can just run out to the store to get more OO, but I can't just run out to get coconut oil as I don't want to spend a fortune on it there.

Have any of you done a bar with just OO and PO or OO, PO and the little bit of CO I have? I was playing around and wondered what you think of this recipe:

Coconut Oil, 76 deg 5%
Olive Oil 50%
Palm Oil 45%

Hardness 35
Cleansing 4
Conditioning 64
Bubbly 4
Creamy 31
Iodine 67
INS 131

I know it'd be a softer, creamier bar, but ATM I can't get castor oil either - it's just not at the stores I go to! :(

Have you tried your local pharmacy for castor oil? It's often sold either as a laxative or to remove band aids.

Never thought of that! Guess I'll be stopping by on my way home.

How much castor oil do you think I should add?

I have no experience with higher percentages; but ever since I added 7% castor to my recipe (instead of olive) I just can't make a batch without it :p

They did give me funny looks at the farmacy :p

If you have a Wal-Mart nearby and don't object to shopping there, mine stocks 2 pound containers of coconut oil (Louanna brand) for about $5.50. I've used it; it's fine.

thanks for the tip! I personally don't mind shopping there so I'll keep my eye out. I thankfully got more supplies in so I've been soaping like crazy for the holidays but I know I'm about to run out again soon!
