What the heck is this? (picture)

I made this soap last night with this recipe: 12 oz olive oil, 12 oz coconut oil, 19 oz soybean oil, 6 oz lye, and 16 oz of beer. I left the beer out for 5 days to let the carbonation dissolve. I don't know what has happened to my soap and I tongue tested it and it seems fine. I also washed my hands with one bar and it worked fine too. It doesn't smell the best, but I'm hoping the scent will go away after it cures. Did I ruin it? Does anyone know what this weird stuff is in it?

hi there!

it's awful hard to see by a little picture what you're talking about. we have a couple beer soapers. click on search at the top right of the forum and use keyword beer soap and you'll get all the threads on the subject.

the smell should go away in a few days and it looks like a little discoloration-which may be on par with beer soap. i've never made any-but i would say if your lye is correct, then you have soap. i like to run all recipes thru www.soapcalc.com or thru MMS.

I've not yet soaped with beer adorabelle, so good on you! It looks like soap - what do you feel is wrong with it? The smell changes as it saponifies and drys out...I do know that :wink:

LOL! amazing! i've been squinting at these tiny pictures for months! now i have to go back and look at everyone's pic's.

i was wondering, did you add any f/oil? perhaps that could have reacted to the beer? also, i remember reading you had to simmer the beer first-then cool. something to do with the alcohol content?

i know in the photogallery there are some pics of beer soap.

i think big moose makes beer soap. maybe when he comes back to the forum he can be of more help. (you might pm him)
