I bought about 20 kg of lye awhile back (got a deal on it in bulk.... it's going to take me forever to use up!!)

I'm wondering how I should store it to ensure it lasts a long time (it will probably take me a year or more to use it all).

Is there a certain temperature it should be kept at? I have had it all in the trunk of my car since I bought it (about 2 months ago). Up until the past few weeks it hadn't been very cold, so I wasn't worried about it, but it is close to -25C here tonight and I wonder if the extreme cold will affect the lye?

???

Thanks!

lye

hi there!

as long as moisture does not get to it, heat and cold doesnt directly affect it. i store mine outside in a closet in my garage.

i break mine down in easier to handle sizes-like 1 gallon ziplocks-double bagged and then placed in a plastic pail with lid.

I don't think the temperature effects the lye, but the humidity will. Make sure it's sealed or it will attract moisture from the air.

**Dreaming about 40+ lbs of lye ~ sigh**
