Hi everyone! Can somebody please tell me what just happened, why it happened & if my batch will be ok? I made a batch using 18% coconut oil, 38% pomace, 16% palm oil, 10% shea butter, 8% castor oil &10% crisco. My water was at 33% & I made a EO/FO combo of eucalyptus & lemon EOs with a small amount of tart lemon & white Christmas FOs. Everything was going fine. I brought my batter to a light trace using a stick blender. I mixed in my fragrance, then separated some of the batter into separate containers for my tri-color ITP swirl. The main color was white & I used TKBs liquid titanium white. My other colors were yellow oxide & chromium green. Everything was still going fine. I added my green batter to the white with no problems. When I went to add my yellow batter, my white batter had thickened considerably. Before I could finish adding my yellow batter, the white batter began to bubble, curdle, rise & it swallowed my colored batters, forcing them to the bottom of my container! I started to panic, gave the batter a quick stir & glopped it into my molds. I need to know what I did wrong so I don't make the same mistake again & does anyone know if my soap will be ok?

Its been about 1 1/2 hrs since I molded my disaster & this is what it looks like. The 2nd mold has oil separation but I don't know why, I swear I had achieved trace! But even if I had a false trace why would it suddenly thicken, bubble, curdle & swell when I added my yellow batter? I'd really appreciate ANY advice or comments! Thanks!

Thanks lsg & Hazel. I got everything from WSP. I know the FOs were soap safe but it was my 1st time using EOs & I mixed them with the FOs. Because the reaction was delayed, I never considered the fragrance as the culprit. Thanks again!

I'm new here, but my only other comment is that I've had super accelerated trace happen with pomace oil (as opposed to cold pressed olive oil), so maybe that's part of your problem too?

Hi Kitty, I normally use pomace instead of olive oil so I'm use to working with it. Before I got a stick blender, during an olive oil batch literally took forever to trace vs a pomace batch. I think it may have been the essential oil/fragrance oil combo. I'd never used an EO before. I was feeling creative & decided to experiment. But it didn't work & I learned something new!
