I was thinking of trying and selling my soaps at local craft shows can I do it as a DBA or would I need to me a actual sole proprietors company?

I think it can depend on the show itself - some of them might well want you to meet certain requirements, but I'm not sure if that includes the status of business or not.

If there are some in the area that you're interested in, they might well list the requirements on their websites and should certainly be willing to answer a question on it.

I'd imagine for most of them it is no issue as it's a craft fair, so they should expect it

It varies from state to state and sometimes city/city and county/county. I filed as a sole proprietor since I also had to file for a sales tax license. I also have my insurance through my name and business name. I would check with your local and state authorities to see what's required.
