I was just wondering what everyone is doing this weekend. Do you have Christmas shows/craft fairs? Are you preparing products for shows coming up? Making soap?

I have two more Christmas shows coming up but none this weekend so I'm making lotions and foot spa stuff and Christmas gifts. I'm not making any more soap until Jan. or Feb. (helps chase away the winter blahhs :D What about you?

I'm dying to make some soap this weekend but I'm out of Coconut oil and my order won't get here until tuesday.

I think I have everything else I need including some Palm, Olive, Sunflower and even some Avocado oils.

Can someone point me to some recipes that will work well WITHOUT coconut oil? Or is there a good substitute I can buy locally? I've found one recipe that uses vegetable shortening and Castor oil which I should be able to get. But every search I do for "No coconut" or "without coconut" just takes me to recipes that have coconut oil in them.

Coconut free

With a quick search I found this on the web....

Fine Detail Soap Recipe A Coconut-free hard soap that is good for molds with intricate details, and good on sensitive skin. (Some people who are not allergic to coconut still get a little skin irritation from it.)
32 oz Olive Oil
8 oz Cocoa Butter

16 oz Palm Oil

18 oz distilled water

7.33 oz lye

After Trace, Add:
4 oz Shea Butter
4 oz Essential Oil

-Tis a web recipe - did nto run it through a calc or anything

I have my first holiday bazaar next weekend. I've made all the soap I can for that, so now I'm making the body butters and lip balms. Whatever's left over will be Christmas gifts! :D

Was really hoping to get a three or four more test batches in this weekend, and try and fix my hair-wax recipe, but I had an Uncle pass away yesterday so Sunday(my normal soap day) is going to be spent at the funeral home, though I may try to get one batch in tonight and one Sunday morning. Have plans all day Saturday or else I’d try it then.

I'm making a poppy seed scrubbie, & a few facial soaps. Along with a goldfish in a sno globe .

Soaping and selling

Tyding up .Organising soaps , making sure that all soaps are labled.
Getting my home/ castle /studio/ soap gallery ready for visitors.
My son and grandaughter are on a promise to come up so I have all the makings ready for Miss Emily Janes Devine Spell Bound Cup cakes that we are to do together.I haven't heard a peep so far about what time all I can say at this point is it obviously wasn't last night.
Tomorrow I pick up two ladies in my 4 x 4 to bring them up my steep and extremely rough road after torrential rains. They have come to buy their christmas soaps and share coffee and cup cakes gossip and views.
So it's lots of anticipation and some organizing.
What ever happens the Soap- world will continue to spin.
I shall report later.
You all have a great weekend.

I am resorting to using Copha from the super market for same reason.
Actually have met with no resistance to copha being included so far.

Making a 3-wick candle for a neighbor that ordered it back in June. LMAO (Yeah, I kind of dropped the ball on that one) also taking an inventory of soaping oils, because I know I need some Palm and PKO but am not sure what else I might need, so once I do that I'll be placing an order so I can get serious on making some soap.
No shows for me this year. :(

Starduster - I got desperate and used it (copha) in my last batch and it worked fine :D[/quoteYes I have used it a few times .I am not sure why there would be a problem.I lable that Soyabean Lecithin on ingredients of course.
It is cheap and freely available. But I order th pure coconut oul usually to be on the sfe side.
Anyone else know anything else about it?

Just finished a Chamomille / Witch Hazel Leaf soap and I have to get ready for a table I'm doing at a mall in early December. I also plan on doing a coffee ground soap and more Marshmallow Root, Lavender & Rose Bud soap. The last one has already sold out and I need some more.

What size batches Lindy

What size batches do you make Lindy.
Because I can only soap every so often,(health issue) altho I live breath and dream soaping, I make a very big lot.18 kgs my comfortable largest to fit in old bottomless drawer as mold.
Today 9 kgs. I stir with paint stir end on rechargable battery drill in 20 liter white buckets.

It means I need to really plan the whole operation and deeply think about what will be most appropriate and popular.
Then I can flop untill cutting up time and the clean up just waits till I am ready.

Hi Starduster,

I usually do 2 - 3 lb batches. I've also started doing the Bundt Cake Soap (Cake something like an Angel Food Cake except the edges are wavy), I have 2 requests for those plus I want one for the table. I swear I've never had cleaner hands than I've had for the last couple of weeks. I find it really surprising that I'm getting this response because there are other soapers in the area and 2 of my suppliers (a health food store and a grocery store) are now carrying my soaps. The biggest difference with my soaps is that I'm not using an essential oils, fragrance oils or colours. My colouring is coming from the ingredients.

The biggest batch I've done is 10 lbs of Bastille and I've been using a lot of that for rebatching for some special request soaps.

Cheers

I'm making some earrings to sell at my shop! Been practicing for a while now and so far the ones I've made them for love it!
