What caused this texture in the soap?
Here's the recipe and temps: It's A CP Goats' Milk Soap.

Lye (NaOH): 8.6%
Goat Milk: 21.1%

Coconut oil: 18.3%
Calendula infused Olive Oil: 24.4%
Palm Oil: 18.3%
Shea Butter: 6.1%

Satsuma, Mandarin & Jasmine FO: 15ml
Kaoline Clay: 1 TB

Oil Temp: 36*C
Lye/milk temp: 33*C
Trace temp: 32.6*C

It never showed any signs of going wrong or anything....

Well let's see your oils don't add up to 100% so I'm not sure here. Did you use a fragrance at all? Did you use any color additives?

Here's the right percents:
Lye (NaOH): 8.6%
Goat Milk: 21.1%

Coconut oil: 27.3%
Calendula infused Olive Oil: 36.4%
Palm Oil: 27.3%
Shea Butter: 9.1%


I used the "Satsuma, Mandarin & Jasmine" FO from Saffire Blue and only Kaolin clay for coloring. That's all.

I am wondering if it is streaking caused by the stearic acid in palm oil

What I am looking at looks to be the beginning of seperation due to overheating. Did you put your soap in the freezer to stop gel?

No, I just left it on the counter to gel.

Did you add your lye to frozen gm? Did you add it slowly? Did it curdle? Did you do the zap test to check for lye heavy soap?

I think this looks cosmetic and after the cure should be useable.

Looks like a bit of stearic crackle, possibly from overheating.

I think it's some stearic issue too. I've had that look before. I also get glycerine rivers but I usually love how it turns out on my soap if I do get it.

I think this looks cosmetic and after the cure should be useable.

The gm was slushy. I added it half of the lye then the other half. No, it didn't curdle, I keep it around 30-40*C using cold water. No, I didn't zap test it.
