As a young teen, using the excuse to get out of swimming in gym class, I might have forged my parent's handwriting stating I was on my period. So I know this is an acceptable thing at this age because...well not everyone was ready to have that personal chat with their parents.

Do you think it's karma for my actions as a young teen, that I now get phone calls from women in their 20's that they cannot make their office appointments because they are on their period?

I guess this is more of a general rant than anything. Isn't there a general cut off for this excuse of, oh, say age 16?

Well, what kind of appointment was it?
Some women have some serious pains and other things going on with their period that are so bad they can't get out of bed. Of course, I personally would have just said that I was sick LOL

I think once you are out of high school you should be ready to keep appointments. Of course I probably wouldn't want a pap test or exam if I were on my period.

I have light periods, so I've never used that excuse. I think it's kind of distatsteful to shout from the mountain tops that you can't do something because of your period. Not everyone wants to know that! I think 'i'm sick,' or something else similar would be much more acceptable.

I hear it very frequently. I work in an office to teach job search skills to people by appointment. With all the illness going around right now I really would have bought the "I don't feel well!" excuse!

I would have just said sick too and in my case, most likely a migraine. That time can be very hard on some women at any age. Of course, if you lived in the public eye or had an important job or position where people were counting on you, I think you would just have to be there, doing and looking the best you could.

I have horrible, excruciating periods. I've been late to work the last 3 periods on the first day.

I still use it as an excuse :D
