Super happy with my "for skin" liquid goat milk soap. Not using it yet, as I made it cold process and and letting it cure a bit. Will be using in foamers with significant dilution and seeing how I like that.

So, today I wanted to make a %100 coconut liquid soap, with goat milk as the water, for cleaning "things-not-skin." Dishes, laundry, etc. I put in a %-3 superfat because I use high-fat Nigerian goat milk, which can be up to %10 butterfat. I wanted to know how the goat milk, with its sugars and salts and other complicated parts, behave in a cleansing soap. Since I have *so* much goat milk at my disposal, why not?

Goat milk: 30.4 oz
KOH lye:. 23.53 oz
Coconut oil:. 80 oz

Okay, making up the soap with my KOH lye, and things are going fine. I am on a crazy high, watching how fast all the chemical reactions are happening. Then suddenly, I reach a dead end.

The soap becomes so stiff, it is absolutely unstirrable. And the soap is heating on its own beyond what I wanted it to heat at. I have run out of ice on my little homestead, and have it in a water bath in the sink in hopes to keep it from getting too hot.

But this utterly unstirrable state... That surprised me. I was not expecting this. I couldn't stir it if I wanted to.

Is this going to be okay? Is this normal?

For cleaning and laundry you want a 0 sf. You don’t want excess oils especially for laundry. I generally do -1 sf as lyes not 100% And if your adding milk it’s going to up the SF. I use water for my 100% CO soap.

you don’t have enough liquid. For HP it’s 1:3. That’s why it seized up. Plus the cooking.

Thanks, shunt2011, I get that. That is why I set the superfat at -3. I am experimenting here, after all. I am happy to tweak and make changes later. It is the becoming a solid mass that I am asking about in this particular thread.

Take it off heat, cover it, go to bed and call me in the morning! LOL

Seriously, fillycate, you can just do nothing. Sometimes soap just has a way of doing it's own thing. The less you attempt to do anything at this time is key. Watch and learn. :nodding:
