Weird projections. Help!

Has anyone ever had this happen to their cold process soap? What is it?

Wow' I don't know Maybe Lye Reaction To Something? Can you post your Recipe' maybe someone can better understand what caused this?

That is so odd! It reminds me of this thread, where something similar happened Whaaaaat just happpppenneeed???
You might be able to find something in that. A picture at the end of the thread shows it to be very similar to what you have going on.

I'm betting it's ash. When we did the "superlye" soap recipe with -40% lye excess, some people found their soap grew some amazing layers of ash. Some looked sparkly like snow, others looked like spiky fur. My batches got very ashy, but the ash looked like old chalky paint -- nothing much to ooh and ah about.

I would be careful with this soap -- handle it with gloves. It's possible the bits that are showing this oddball ash might be lye heavy.

I'm guessing that you may not have gotten your Sodium Hydroxide fully dissolved. I'd just stick the soap on a high shelf and forget about it for three months or so and see what happens...give it a 'zap' test.
