Could someone please give me some reliable sites for soap making info. I read in a few things on here that there is a lot of misleading webistes on making it.
Is it really as simple as I have read?

Thanks

The following two sites are very trustworthy:

http://millersoap.com/

Also- please read through our CP soap section for lots of helpful tips and tricks (and don't hesitate to ask questions). :)

Yes and no. While the mechanics of making soap is actually very simple, the ability to formulate a good recipe that you and your skin are happy with takes a bit more know-how and trial-and-error.

IrishLass :)

I would also like to add that no matter where you get your recipe (or formulate your own) always always ALWAYS run it through a lye calculator to be sure. Even trustworthy reputable sites can have typos!

http://www.soapcalc.net/

http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php

http://summerbeemeadow.com/content/lye- ... pe-resizer

these should get you started, spend a few minutes playing around with them and learn how to use them, they will save you a lot of cipherin' and headaches.

Also, as you read along, remember soap recipes are calculated by weight, not volume, so you need a good accurate scale. Welcome, and good luck :)

The sites listed are very good sites for learning about soap making.

Soap Queen is also very excellent. She has some nice basic videos about soap making

Also, if you're interested in finding a good book on soap making, "The Everything Soapmaking" book by Alicia Grosso is excellent.
