Using Sodium Lactate in CP Soap

If SL is liquid salt, couldn't you just use your own salt water solution to harden bars and make them last longer? Or is SL something that would be different than just plain salt water?

Some people use SL and some just use salt. I personally use SL and love it. SL has preserving qualities as well (though not a total preservative).

Salt is sodium chloride, sodium lactate is not the same thing.

I have used SL and it does help to harden your soap and make unmolding smoother. But in my experience, it's not necessary.

I use powdered sodium lactate from lotion crafter...I save a lot on shipping...2 level tsps. PPO, in the water before you add the lye...wonderful company to work with, too! http://www.lotioncrafter.com/sodium-lactate_powder.html

I use the liquid form, about 1 tsp ppo in CP in the lye water, and in HP I add about the same after the cook. For CP I think it gives me a harder bar. For HP I think it really helps liquify the gluey mess to do fun things with it.
