I have made 1 or 2 salt soaps in the past. I used coarse pink Himalayan salt in the past. Is it best to use coarse salt or should I grind it into a powder? Does it matter the size of the salt grains?

Thanks

I have done coarse-grain and fine grain, and I prefer the fine grain.

I haven't tried it, but I've heard that grinding a coarse-grain salt creates really sharp edges that can scratch and cut. So, maybe don't try that...

Fine grain should be used or might be too scratchy. I’ve heard it’s not a good idea to grind it as it creates sharp edges that could cut someone. I’ve only ever used fine sea salt. I make a lot of salt bars.

The best salt is really un-iodized table salt. Otherwise use xfine -fine but no coarser and consider a blend of table salt and sea salt. Himalayan sea salt tends to be scratchier than Pacific Sea Salt.

For personal use, fine grain is preferred. Never used a pink Himalayan salt and no experience with grinding salt.
