Just wondering if anyone does this? i have yet to try and make soap - slowly gathering materials, but was originally inspired by one I used sold by Tropical Traditions - its only ingredients listed are saponified coconut oil. They actually call it a shampoo bar, but I used it as body and face soap (and it is slightly drying but that was helpful for me).

I just haven't seen people talk about or recommend 100% CO so that's why I'm curious. Is it less common b/c of the drying factor?

I really like 100% coconut oil soap, made with goat milk and with a 20% lye discount.

I also love salt bars with 100% coconut oil and 20% lye discount.

I love 100% co soap. I superfat mine at anywhere from 15-20% depending on what liquid I use, if I'm using a milk I'll stick with the 15%.
I love it with coconut milk, so creamy and bubble and silky!!

I do have quite oily skin on my face, and can handle this soap fine, but if I use it a lot on my hands they do get a bit dry.

I make a 100% CO soap for my husband. I do not superfat it or discount the lye. It works great on his oily complexion.

ok - thanks so much, everyone! I must have just been missing these threads. thanks, especially for the info on superfatting. I'll totally be a novice but am tempted to buy the 50lb pail from soaperschoice.com as I also use coconut oil for cooking (LOTs of it, really) and I seem to recall reading somewhere that their oils are food grade...

Anyway, thanks again, everyone!

What risk might I be taking if I make my very first CP recipe using a 20% superfat? What if I just make sure I follow someones tried a true recipe that uses that much of a superfat?

I love the idea of goats' milk... I'm sure that's a lovely soap!

Hi Annie

The reason you can take the 20% lye discount is that Coconut Oil is extremely shelf-stable... no joke, it takes 3 or so years to start going rancid. Any other oil and you could pretty much guarantee you'd have DOS in no time with a 20% LD.

Oh, BTW - SoapersChoice is fantastic, but make sure you count the shipping cost into your equation... for me, the shipping on the 50 lb pail was $25ish (I know, not a lot to ship 50 pounds but still...).
