Hi Everyone
I received my tussah silk noll fibres in the mail today. I know that there are a few soapers on here that use silk, that's why I wanted to try it out.
I was wondering if anyone would like to pitch in and tell me how they use theirs? And also, from anyone that has used silk soap, could you tell me how it felt, what you feel the benefits were?
From memory, the most common way is to dissolve some in the lye water. Is this correct?
And do you think using silk and/or clay would make a good shaving soap?
Thanks all!!

Soap cooler, and no FOs just to start you back in? I haven't heard of any EOs seizing soap so perhaps use one of those? I am making a batch tomorrow and I will be making up my lye water tonight so it will definitely be room temp tomorrow. I am even thinking of refrigerating it to bring it down to say 25degrees, as well as the oils. That should be real RTCP as per this forum!

I love Tussah Silk and do find it to add silkiness to the soap to the extent I'm putting it in all my soaps now.

I cut it up into little bits and put into the water before adding my lye. I stir it up with the lye in the mixture.

Once you try it you'll be totally addicted - I promise. You don't use very much, maybe a piece the size of the top of your thumb.

Please let us see your pictures and yeah I would recommend trying soaping at RT or cooler to avoid seizing. Are you using a new fragrance or EO?

Exactly.

What do silk fibers add to your soaps? I noticed some people put them in and was wondering what properties they add

What is Tussah Silk?

Is it like cyclomethicone? Or is it real silk fibre?

Frosting MP Soap

Hi there

Last week I posted about wanting to put sugar sprinkles in MP soap - didnt turn out so great - melted into greyish sort of mess!!! So now I have a new idea and wanted to know if anyone has any sort of advice or could tweak this a little for me. I tried to whip M&P soap - with an electric blender so that I could pipe it onto the top of a muffin mould soap - the idea then was to sprinkle the sugar sprinkles on the top of that - but I had a few problems -

1. The m&p hardened in the bowl that I was mixing it in - before I could even put it into the icing/frosting gun.
2. it wouldnt stick to the top of the muffin soap, even when I tried to pour hot , melted MP soap over it???

I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to add liquid soap with a little bit of citric acid and castor sugar to melted MP soap - to make a soap frosting?? Would you be willing to tweak my recipe - I ahve wasted so much soap in the last week, that I dont want to try without putting it out there for advice first.

Thanks

Dang I did it again!

Posted in the wrong thread - serves me right for keeping multiple threads open! Sorry about this everyone! I try to limit my dumb-doh-disgraces to 6 a day!

Soapmom & tincanac - it is real silk in its raw state. I can't tell you the scientific properties Soapmom but once you've used soap with silk in it you can truly feel the difference.

Here is a pic of the silk itself before it's added.

I just bought 2 oz for 5.48 (that's with shipping) on ebay. I'm an ebay fanatic, I look there first :p I'm not really sure if that's in line with how much it is from big suppliers but I just wanted a small amount to try and that was an amount I could live with lol
