Has anyone used the "turkey red sulfated castor oil" from soapers choice brands? I have been using it in my recent batches, but they've been turning out REALLY oily, still oily after a week of sitting out! I'm been varying both my recipe and the scents, which is a bad idea at this time-since all of us are getting ready for the upcoming craft show season!!! Actually, we're in the middle of it ;)
So, basically I'm going to return to my original tried and true recipe of coconut, palm and olive oil w/ a bit of castor for bubbles...and goat milk powder.
Appreciate any comments on the 'red castor oil'...also, I've been using the 'castor oil' choice in the soapcalc.net equation- theres no choice for different castor oils...
thanks guys!:?:

It's really different than regular castor. I think most people use it as an emulsifier, not so much for bubbles in a soap batch.

OMG! so that's why my soaps have been coming out greasy/oily!!! I didn't realize that, THANKS so much for the tip!! I'll buy just regular castor oil from now on...I use it for the bubbles anyway-regular castor oil is a wonderful oil ;)

pamielynn is right. Sulfonated turkey red castor oil isn't saponifiable. Since it's water soluble, it can be used in bath products and for superfatting liquid soap. If you scroll to the bottom of this page, you'll see some links to related discussions about this oil.

I've never used it - but that's what I'd heard :) I use just ordinary USP castor in my soap and don't really do much B&B.

pamielynn -

I haven't used it, either. But in reading about it, reputable people and sites all mention the same properties so I believe them. BTW, I love regular castor oil in my soap.
