I've searched the forum and the web and I get conflicting ideas about adding tomato juice to soap. I think I can substitute my tomato juice from canned tomatoes for the water. But I also read that tomato juice is an acid, so it will neutralize the lye. Wouldn't that make for some serious problems?

I used tomato paste too . I have seen tomato juice recipes , they just replace some or all of the lye water with tomato juice. Gives the soap a great color .

Another possible way to do this, is to only use 1/2 of your liquid as tomato juice, and the other as distilled water.

I've never tried tomato paste...hmmm...now you've got the wheels turning!

I think it's Carebear who regulalry makes a tomato bar, and I've been meaning to make one myself based on her results which she says are lovely. Maybe she will pop in to lend some tomato soaping wisdom.

So far I've only used tomato paste as a swirling colorant. It makes a lovely orange color.

Now I'm getting excited about making this--but the garden is producing potatoes right now and I have spent the whole day canning! I'll give it a go first thing tomorrow morning and will try to post pics when it's out of the mold.[/b]

I've made tomato bars before....some with tomato paste at trace, some with pureed tomatoes substituting for the part of the water, some for all of the water....and I've done all tomato in place of water AND added tomato paste at trace.

All of them turned out lovely. Tomatoes are acidic, yeah, but only mildly so....never hurt the soap. :)
