Technically, SCUBA is an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. So I suppose my question is, are acronym's allowed? I know what you think; grammar NAZI!!! If ok, I have some doozies!

Good question. I don't have an answer; just a thought. Nazi, for example, has both a specific denotation (National Socialist Workers Party) and a general connotation, i.e. "grammar Nazi". Both scuba and Nazi are part of the normal lexicon in terms of the meaning being widely understood. So, I would say go for it, with discretion.
