The Soap Fairies were very very mean to me today!! Hopefully they will be nicer to me tomorrow.
I have been planning on making a rainbow soap. Over the past few days, I've been working out what colours, how much in each layer for each colour, perfecting the recipe, finding the perfect mould.
So, this afternoon, the weather was a bit cooler today so I thought I would get cracking. I usually work with a pretty heavy water discount, but didn't today as I knew that I would need some extra time to mix colours.
All went well, separated some soap batter to colour...did the yellow layer, then the pink layer, then went to do the next colour, oh no, my soap was a big hard lump. Oh well, I thought, I've got two colours done, so I quickly jumped back on soapcalc and worked out a half batch, just to finish off three more colour layers.
Did the green, then blue, then a purple...all the while with this image in my head of "rainbow soap"..
SO, finished the soap, left it to do it's thang, went to the shop, when I got home all of my colours except the yellow and pink had changed into different colours, not necessarily bad colours, but not what I had wanted.
SO, just unmoulded, no problems there, came out of the log nice and easily, cut the first slice, it broke like shards of glass, super sharp little and big splinters of soap.
I just stood there, with a tear in my eye...I think the mischievious soap fairy had a great time in my kitchen today the little imp.
Hopefully she will be visiting someone else tomorrow and will leave me alone to make some nice soap.

Oh that's too bad. The concept sounds like it would have been a really cool looking soap!
Well, please don't send her my way. I'm soaping for the first time in months this weekend, and I don't want to worry about babysitting a little mischievious brat! LOL

Mean ole soap fairies!!! I saw some one mention once that when making multiple layers, she makes several small batches, each layer at a time. By doing it that way, each layer is "set" a bit by the time the next layer is poured. Sorry, I don't remember who it was. Maybe that will work for you.

That's how I do my layers. :)

Oh Chrissy! Baaadd soap fairy :x (*smack*).......oops! Are you allowed to smack naughty fairies? (Picture me shaking my finger and frowning instead  ). I do feel for you so much

Did you use your usual oils for this? I have never read anywhere about soap splintering before. Could it be the colour additives you have used? Have you used them before at the concentration you used this time? Maybe you can chop/grate/crush this one and add to another soap batter as colourful embeds?

You may just be unique in this soaping community....perhaps you have invented a new kind of soap!

Tanya

On behalf of all the soap Faries in the world

There was a quiet little knocking on my door and some muffled sobs earlier.
I looked out , nothing ,I looked down and saw a moving sparkle and a tiny hand reached up to me then pointed out towards the paddock.I followed. There was a little group of Union badged soap fairies, most sniveling , one ranting a bit. I lowered myself onto an empty toadstool as indicated, gingerly , carefully, actually I only pretended to sit my deriere down there ,I ballanced uncomfortably on my haunches instead .The logistics of my trusting my weight to a toadstool would take a better imagination than mine .Seems they were temporaily out of temporary shrinking powder. There was a great deal of supping of honey dew and tiny fairy burps in the shape of irridescent bubbles, yes yes soap bubbles. Then it was down to buisness which translated from fairy to human was basically this. They swear they have nothing to do with bad batches of soap and would like you all to stop besmirching there afore to hither good names.
The leader says it is the Grinch , yes that very same Christmas grinch.

 Once apon a Time there was a soap Forum ,pretty special in it's own way .Then along came Digit .She had just come back from rescueing Grandma from the big bad wolf .As she was wandering over the Trolls bridge she heard "Who's that walking on my Bridge, trit trot trit trot on my bridge.
Digit turned frigit ,but just before ... to be continued

continuing, for digit

anyways ,just before that troll ate her all up, as they do, along came seven Dwarves and gave her a sack of the wildest little smilies and all the soapers lived happily ever after.
Now put out the light and go to sleep .No reading under the blankets with a torch or I will send Brer Rabbit to get you,
