Ok, so here is my "Coffee Soap" it still smells funky and the top looks kinda burned. I don't know, this was my first "experiment" I just switched out my water with strong coffee and added some coffee grounds, it was like the lye burned the coffee, it smelled bad as soon as they mixed. What do you guys think?? I made this Aug. 6th so I know it's not "done" but it just doesn't look good!

Is it the top that smells "funky" . I would cut the very top off of one bar and see if the soap smells better . If it is the top I would just cut the tops off and let them cure some more . I have some "topless" soap too :D

They look just soft to me, I think they need to cure, like Kitn said if the top is funky then cut it off, I do that all the time if I don't like it. It is your soap, you do what you want with it! It does look lovely and creamy and very similar to my first soap, so I wouldn't worry too much.Well done! :D

Reminds me of a Mud Pie coffee ice cream dessert bar. Yummy!

I thought the same - like some type of chocolate pie - even the top looked good. Make sure you mark it soap or friends or family might try to eat it :)

Well the whole thing looks like the top now, as it dried it all turned dark brown. My friend today did think they were brownies till I smelled it and made a bad face! It still doesn't smell great!

The whole soap will turn that dark brown color. The "peanut butter color" is temporary in coffee soaps. And they ALWAYS smell awful when you first make them. But let me tell you, people love them. I have always scented mine with a good vanilla FO, and call the soap "Vanilla Cappucino" and people go crazy over it. The vanilla seems like the perfect scent for it, but a good chocolate FO is very nice too. Also, if you really want to get artsy-fartsy, you can whip-up some plain white cp soap and make a whipped topping for it, which makes for a really good cappucino look.

I like coffee soaps, but I do NOT use coffee lye water. It just gags me to smell it. I use instant coffee and mix it into a slurry with a little bit of water and add it at any time after the lye water is mixed into the soap. About 1 tablespoon of instant coffee per pound of oils, mixed with an ounce of reserved recipe water. It's easy and allows you to reserve a little raw soap for whipping up before adding the coffee, if you want to.

Enjoy! It's a fun way to get your caffeine fix! LOL.

I use triple-strength coffee subbed for water in my soap. Scent it with an FO that turns soap dark brown. This takes care of any bad smell and makes the soap a uniformly dark color.

My coffee soap looked bad at first had some oily spots where grounds were, i cured longer and it is fine now. Is this cp or hp? is it hard?

I made some coffee soap with coffee subbed for water and added coffee grounds. I left it unscented. The smell of the coffee and lye is horrible but it went away...now it just smells like soap with maybe a hint of coffee.

Wow! Your's is WAY lighter than mine! Looks nice! The smell is getting better, I"m starting to have hope and am glad I didn't throw it away!

Good news :) . It really is a good idea to give soap a chance . It always changes during the cure , not always what we would like , but lots of times it will surprise us in a good way . I am glad it is getting better .
