What's on your menu for the Holidays?

I'm cooking big this year, my daughter is coming home from California and bringing home "the Boy" and my son is taking leave from the AF to be home for a few days. I'll also have the ex and his wife, their kids, my parents, possibly my ex's parents and an assorted cousin or two.

It's not going to be fancy, but it's got to be good. I'm ordering a free range turkey this week and I'm going to start testing a couple new recipes, then I'll just fill in with the old tried and true standbys.

About 3 years ago I bought a rotisserie and does that thing ever cook a mean turkey. It will take only up to a 15 or 16 pounder but wow are they good. The wife and I will be driving down to see her mom for thanksgiving. The only bad thing about thanksgiving is how bad my Lions play.

We're going really low-key this year. We're not renting a car and making the 80 mile drive to visit relatives, we're just going to have a quiet meal at home, just the three of us.

I'm going to brine and roast a turkey, make a couple of our favorite sides, bake a pineapple upside down cake (I know it's not exactly traditional Thanksgiving fare but it's our favorite, yum!), and we're going to just hang out and relax together. :)

Driving the whole 15 mins to moms, she does all the Thanksgiving meal. We both have ideas of how we want meals so since I am the only child that has kids, Christmas is at my house and I do all the cooking. For us it works. I love planning the meal from appetizer, meat, sides and desserts. Am off for 10 days from college so is not too bad. For us Christmas tradition is a marinated whole sirloin.

Gosh, I haven't made any plans yet nor talked to my family about what's up. I guess I gotta figure this out sorta soon........huh?

There might be a little room at my house... Just sayin.

I cant go home for Thanksgiving :(... dont have enough $$ to get up there and my job wont give me off...so my girl and I are going to her friends house that is sort of like her family (she calls her friends dad "dad" and mom "mom" etc..)

So that will be ok I guess... still doesnt beat my moms cooking though!... I caaaaaaaant wait to go back home and visit!

Its my Birthday on the 27th too!!! wooooohoooooooooooooooo!

I turn 24 :)

(yeaaaaaah I know your all gonna say...aaaaaaaaaaaaaah youngster! lol)...

Deb,

It sounds like you have a full house my friend but thanks for the offer! :D If nothing pans out with my sisters Maria or Monica then we'll just have a nice quiet meal here at home just the 3 of us. My parents will be spending Thanksgiving with my sister Laura so they'll be taken care of over in Chicago. :D

Ian,

Yep, you are definitely a youngster....I have a nephew who's older than you. But then that just makes me OLD....... I'd give anything to be your age again. Enjoy your youth to the max because it'll be some of the best times of your life when your body still does what you want it to do without complaint :D

Thats my main challenge...slowing down and living in the moment instead of rushing through things and living ahead of myself... its a constant struggle! :)

Yaaaay! I just made our Thanksgiving Day reservations, my dad and stepmom are coming over and we're going to the Columbia for their holiday spread. Their very polite and friendly hospitality manager told me all of the sides and desserts and whatnot they offer along with the turkey, but it all sounded like, "mmm, fooooood!" in my head by the time he was done. :D

I was hoping they'd agree to come over here for the holiday (it's an 80 mile trip) and agree to go out (they typically do a traditional at-home dinner), so I'm really stoked!
