I am running out of butt paste for my little one and thought I'd make some up. The cream I use for him now contains Zinc Oxide (16%). Now, I have heard that Titanium Dioxide works very similarly to Zinc Oxide.

Is that true? If so, does that mean I can add 16% TD to my cream (45% OO, 39% Shea)?

Thanks guys.

Well, since nobody knew I went ahead and tried anyway. So far it has worked like a charm! My baby's bottom is less chapped than when I used A+D or Boudreaux Buttpaste, so I am happy!

Well that's just awesome! I was wondering what the outcome would be. I know zinc oxide works well because it helps with bacteria inhibition, I think this quality is derived from it being a heavy metal on the periodic table of the elements. I don't know much about TD so I can't give any input other than theoretical, but just be cautious with it and look into toxicity levels to see the max level it can be used at, just to be safe. Also another cool thing to research would be bacterial inhibition zones' studies which will show which one has better bacterial inhibition properties and is less likely to allow infections to occur...

Just my 2 cents ! :)

I used cosmetics grade from Brambleberry. TD and ZO are both used in commercial sunscreens, by the way.
