i'm kind of confused about this tax thing.....do i only collect tax from persons i sell to who live in the same state as i do? what if i never sell even one bar of soap....???? i haven't yet, i guess you are supposed to wait until you get the official form back in 2-3 weeks? i guess i won't owe any tax but will i still have to file w/ the state quarterly, or whatever? i assume the frequency of filing has to do with how much tax you collect....but i'm not real clear on that....getting pretty nervous about this .....government forms make me a bit nervous.....

I probably wouldn't worry about the tax thing until you get going a little. If you find that you are getting a lot of sales then you can look into it. I wouldn't rush or stress yourself out over it now if you're not sure how well your business is going to do right off the bat.

Years ago, I use to sell crafts and had a seller's permit. I was selling them in craft stores in my area. Then I stopped doing that as I found the booth fees in other states were way cheaper, so I started sending my stuff to stores out of state...well, when it came time to file the state taxes, I didn't have any to file. They canceled my permit. I got it reinstated and told them that I was not selling in my state. The next year...same thing. Permit was canceled for not having any in state sales. What does a person do? When I start selling my soap, online, what's going to happen then? It's such a pain in the butt.

You still have to file, even if you don't sell one single penny. In TX if you don't file & don't owe, they still charge you $50 for not filing (or filing late)...don't ask me how I know. You will only collect sales tax on items sold in TX.
