Shea butter is said to be a good conditioning element in soap due to its high percentage of unsaponifiables, which remain intact through saponification and benefit the skin.

Take note when ordering shea butter for this purpose:

Refined shea butter has a LOW (<1%) percentage of unsaponifiables.

Unrefined or Natural shea butter has a HIGH (6-17%) percentage.

I just ordered some. I went with unrefined. I'm trying to stay as natural as possible plus it was cheaper! :D
