Suspending in M&P soap

Besides letting the M&P base cool enough into a gloopy mess, is there any easier way to suspend additives like herbs, cornmeal, etc in a bar of soap...in other words to keep it from floating or settling?

I poured small layers, let them harden, added a spoonfull of additives, covered with enough soap to almost cover the layer, added more additives... repeat. This won't give as smooth an edge as just suspending, and the amount of additives you want will also vary.
