Does anyone have any experience and/or chemistry info on weather it really helps to superfat after trace in CP soap?

Ie- If I add my lye, blend to thin trace, and THEN add cocoa butter (For example) is it likely that the cocoa butter will actually be the super fat?

I realize in HOT process it works that way, but what about cold. Seems to me the answer is NO since if I drizzle mica oil on top of soap, the oil gets saponified.... but as I am always impressed by the technical knowledge of people on here- I figure someone might have more detailed info.

I have no real science on this - there has been work on this from that standpoint - but just simply that if saponification takes about 24 hours usually, if you add something at trace then you are keeping it out of that process for a mere smidgeon of this 24 hours. Once it is mixed in and moulded up, it is there with the lye as if it had always been so.

If you want to selectively superfat, do HP. Otherwise, just put all the oils together at the start of CP.

NO is the correct answer. Although you reached trace, you did not reach saponification and the lye will use any and all oils available to it. Lye is not picky.

Hopefully someone will give you the more technical answer. :)

This has been discussed many times and the general consensus is no. The lye will take what it wants with CP. So, I just add all my oils together and let it do it's thing.
