My DB lives on Kodiak Island, AK. He sent me this photo recently. It is how they know spring is coming- the bears begin to roam. They are sluggish but hungry when they awaken!

Ugh! I'm not looking forward to defending my beehive from the bears this year. They can be quite destructive.

I think a good electric fence would be about the only deterrent to a bear and with all that fur, it would have to carry a powerful zap.

Wow, that is one of the scarier signs of Spring. I am used to seeing geese flying north or pictures of flowers and robins, not bears!! :)

I don't know a thing about bears but you all made excellent comments and got a like by me, lol. I saw a bear in downtown Reno once, it was up a tree next to Wendy's on 5th and Keystone. How it got all the way into the city and downtown without being seen or reported before is unknown by me. I also saw one on 395 north somewhere out by Cold Springs, on the way towards Portola. All else, glad it's not me living near bears. :D

A few years ago, there was a lone female black bear living near my parents house. I kinda wonder what happened to her. There used to be lots of bears hear a hundred years ago...

But, a kodiak? No thank you.

I have one, 10,000 volts. They have so much fur that it doesn't faze them unless they touch it with their nose or tongue.

Here's my latest disaster. This bear put its nose under the lowest wire and pushed its way in.

A gun works pretty good!

I have a shotgun with rubber buckshot loaded but they come around at night when I'm sleeping.

The DOW gave our neighbors some rubber buckshot because a bear kept breaking into their shed to get to their garbage and it started trying to get into the house. They have 2 small children, yikes!

Wow that is not good! Pretty sure I'd be "throwing lead" at that point!

I'm gonna stick with robins and randy bunnies chasing each other around as the signs of spring around here.
