i don't know whether to be scared or excited. i offered to let her be a tester instead but she really wanted to have a new scent that i haven't made yet so she wants to buy a bar. i did tell her i am new to this and that i am still in the testing phase but she insisted. i am making her a small batch of soap that is jasmine. i am doing HP.

she is a family friend, so you think there is anything else i need to do or warn her about? i have made this recipe about 8 times and have been using it for 2 or more weeks with no bad reactions from anyone in the family.

I'd say go for it...but I've never made what you've just described. Is Jasmine supposed to be awkward to get right?

Woohoo!!!! Good Job, I think you have given her all the necessary warnings etc! Congratulations!

good for you!

my general rule of thumb for anyone (including family):

1st bar free with usual warnings, then if they come back-let them help your "reseach and development" (r & d). LOL!

happy for you! :D

i made the bars, and now i am letting them cool down. do you think this is a good sized bar? 1 1/4 or so high, 2 inches wide, 3 inches long? i could go 4 inches long but i am not sure. i have pretty small hands so what i think is comfortable may be too small.

congrats! so excited for you!! i think the size is fine...mine are usually longer but it depends on the mold you are using.

i am using a skinny drawer organizeer. it has square corners and it measures, 12x3x2. so it is perfect for HP test batches. i can get 10 trial soaps out of it at the most and 4 at the least.

some of my bars are 2 x 3 x 1.25-some of my customers prefer this size because it is easier to hold onto in the shower. 4 oz-4.5 oz is a fair sized bar.

ok i finished them. they are still a bit sticky but smell really good. i forgot to prepare a color so they are just the plain soap color. they weigh between 4 1/2 and 5 oz each. sow much do you think i should ask her for it? i wasn't really prepared to start selling so i haven't taken the time to figure out my costs ect. what is a good overall price?

Krissy..... I don't know where I found this but it is called Cost Calc. It is a spreadsheet that you put in your ingredients etc and it will do a cost per bar and a retail per bar. You might take a look at that to get an idea. Try Googling Cost calc you might find it.

Edit: http://www.ziggurat.org/soap/calculators/ I believe this is where I got it from. It is FREE

Krissy - the way I figure out my pricing is I take my cost double it for wholesale pricing and then retail is double that price. I sell most of my soap for $5.25 + taxes and it sells just fine, very few people question it, especially people who know about hand crafted soap.

Hope that helps....

i just made jasmine hp, but not real eo jasmine that would be very spendy, i used fo from peak, very nice smell and i made it with blue powder and some natural(tan).
