Hi all,
Any of you that uses sodium lactate in CP soaps, please share with me your preferences in % amounts per one pound of oils.

And when is the best phase to incorporate, in oils or water?

I've been using it at 2% but I don't think that's enough for some of my recipes. I plan on trying 3% in my next batch. I add it to the lye water. I don't deduct the amount of the SL from my liquid because I don't make large batches. I figure .5 oz isn't going to make a big difference in the amount of liquid. Although, I may deduct it when I go up to 3%.

edited for typo

I had read somewhere that you "should" deduct this amount from your liquid. I figured this recommendation was more for people who make huge batches.

Yeah, the discounting of water must be for bigger batches than what we make, because my normal batch size is on the smaller end of the scale at 2.5 lbs, and it does fine in that without discounting any of my water from my normal 33% lye solution. I've noticed, though, that whenever I've tried to soap with 3% SL in 34% and higher lye solutions in my normal size batch, that the SL caused a bit of crumbling around the edges of my soap when I went to cut. That never happens to me with a 33% lye solution. Lowering my amount of SL a tad bit in those steeper batches has eliminated the crumblies (intead of 1 tbsp ppo, I'll drop it down to about 1/2 or 3/4 tbsp ppo).

IrishLass :)
