Hey everyone! I'd like to share all the soaps I've been working on since June.
could use some feedback or tips. (i'm my own worst critic)
the dragons blood I have no idea what happened to it. It has dark brown spots all over. assuming dos? The pics go in order of my most recently made to the first soaps I made. (top to bottom)

Thanks for looking
Nikki

They all look lovely but the CM with oats in the top pic looks edible.

The pink sugar one - I had a batch I scented with Vanilla Bean Noel (like 11% vanilla  ) that was dark brown on the outside but cream inside when I cut it. It reminded me of cutting open a Mounds bar. Gradually it discolored so all the bars turned brown. I've heard pink sugar has some vanilla in it. Could it be because of the FO?

As for the DB with dark spots, I don't think it would be DOS this soon but I suppose it's possible. Maybe someone else will be able to answer.

Thanks! The dragons blood literally after a few days of making it developed these spots. So weird and it's the only batch that's done this. Now the pumpkin one has a slight orange tint to the top almost as if i brushed the top with a water color. Could this be just a discoloration too or DOS?

Hazel there were no additives just olive oil, coconut oil, castor and crisco. My FO was one that I bought 1 yr ago. Maybe it was just too old?

I don't think just one year would affect the FO. They're fairly stable. I had a Dragon's Blood FO from WSP which took me almost 2 years to use up because I only used it in batches for a nephew. I didn't have any problems with it other than dark brown discoloration. I don't know what could have caused the brown spots. Have you tried to dig one out and test it between your fingers to see if there is a textural difference?

It's just my opinion but I'd use the soap if it smells good and not worry about it. If it is DOS, I think the main problem with some rancidity is how the oils smell unpleasant. You still have soap and it will be rinsed off.

Thanks Hazel. I have tried digging out the spots, there is no real difference in texture. The spots do not smell funny. It all smells like dragons blood. I gave the whole loaf to my BF to use lol. He loves it. I buy my scents from a local company called Makes Scents. They deal mostly with candle stuff and not a lot of info they provide at all about there scents. ie. how it preforms n such, vanilla ect. That's why I questioned the scent. But I can drive the 1/2 hr there, smell it and buy so for now it makes it nice for practice soaps. Thanks for the help :D

You're welcome but I didn't help. I still don't know what the spots are but I wouldn't let it bother you too much if your BF likes it.

I have some spots ofdiscolouration in my Dragons blood soap and all others made at that time are fine so not my oils I think it may be the fragrance mine is from NG and I love it to bits, I am not sure now that it has darkened if it will show up in a photo but will look and share if it does
Awesome collection of soap :D
