I haven't with those particular supplies, but you certainly could. I would leave out the beeswax. You wont have much lather without coconut oil. Can you get some at Walmart? I would use at least 20%.
Lard makes lovely soap

You can get pretty good soap uing 95% lard and 5% Castor oil. It will have lots of creamy lather. For more bubbles, add a couple of tsp of white sugar to the water for every pound of oils. Make sure to stir the sugar and water until dissolved and then add the lye, otherwise you will have crystalized sugar in your container.

Hi, I had been used all......actually 100% lard soap was very good, good cleaning, good creamy lather. What I don't recommend is the use in beeswax in soap....cut the lather a lot! not a nice feeling.

One thing I learned is, that is better to make our own tests, try with a small batch I have friends that make batch's of 3 soaps, I make mine of 14 oz. that way you don't have to use much of your ingredients. Sometimes what is good for others is not good for you, try your own formulas and see how the soap feels.

Good Luck!

lsg: I heard the sugar makes the soap dissolves faster, in your experience is that true? I was going to try once, but added to the water after the lye, so you can imagine as soon as I added the sugar, that was like molasses, dark and not nice. So I didn't use it.

I try not to shop at walmart. I'm actually waiting on supplies but i said hey I wonder could I make a descent bar of soap other than 100% lard soap with what I have... That's all..

Nope, but it looks like an interesting combination! Let us know how it turns out. (I would skip the wax too.)

I use sugar quite frequently in batches and I've never noticed the ones with sugar dissolved any more quickly than the ones without sugar. But then I also set my soap outside of the shower so it can dry in between uses so this might help.

I agree about dropping the beeswax if it isn't necessary for hardness. I wouldn't think it would be necessary since you have lard and shea butter.

I just put it in SM3 and wow! You would get amazing deep, creamy lather.... and conditioning? Off the scale. Here is how I set it up:

  • Lard - 49%
  • Castor - 5%
  • Shea Butter - 20%
  • Sweet Almond Oil - 24%
  • Beeswax - 2%
You can use @ 2% beeswax and you will get a really hard bar of soap....

You can make soap using 100% lard. I make this to use as a laundry stain stick...usually add sweet orange essential oil. I actually helped my grandmother to make this soap without the essential oil. She made her own lard and tallow and make soap, and candles. She also made her own medicine I just wish I had gotten her to teach me what she knew about herbs.

Lard make a nice creamy and very hard soap, and is very moisturizing, if you mix it with coconut you will have a very good soap, is one of my brother in law favorites, he was suffering a lot of oily skin, and after use it, his problem disappears. So now I made lard/coconut soap just for him.

Don't wait try a small batch with just lard, that way you will have an idea of what you want and need. If you need bubbles and don't have coconut you can add a little bit of castor oil that is very good for skin as well.

Let us know about your soap!

Girls: Costco have a very good coconut oil, good price and good brand, if you have Costco in your town, try it!
