I live in South Wales UK and I am very disappointing that many people did not like the homemade soap. They more preferred the store bought because of the brand than the handmade. Unlike in US and Canada is more on the lye soaps compare to Europe.

I hope it comes to Europe too, In my old country many people make soaps. It is easier to buy homemade soap now, at least it is what my Polish friend tell me. Maybe UK is just too posh for homemade soap ;) just kidding

Give it time - not sure how long you were soaping before you joined, but you've not been here long. Most peoples early recipes do not compare to what they make later on.

Besides, do YOU like them? First and foremost, make soap for you.

I been soaping for 6 months now. Yes I like the homemade more than the store bought. My friend said why I need to do that meanwhile I can just get in the store more easier and faster.

Yes hopefully because long time ago people in here makes their own soap by using Lard or tallow.

It does take a while. While even my first soaps were better than that...stuff...people buy in stores, it took a while to find what I really liked for myself. Plus letting go of some preconceptions I had about some types of soap and learning about proper cure times.

Nowadays, I could give away as much as I wanted and people would still ask for more.

Don't be afraid to play with recipes and keep moving it in the direction of what you're looking for. At this point, I have three stabilized recipes that cover 95% of the soap I make.

Thank you MorpheusPA yes my neighbour was keep asking for more he offer to buy it but here in UK I can't sell them due to EU regulations. He's a truck driver and he told me it cleanse his hand and leave his hand soft.

Sounds to me that your friend needs to sample more of your creations ;)

You could try explaining to her, that by making your own, you can control what ingredients go into it, so you can tailor it to your preferences and that its also a lot of fun :)

As for the UK being less receptive to handmade soap, I don't know if thats true, I think you just need to find the soap lovers. The issue that I've found is that a lot of people prefer the ease and convenience of soap made liquid soaps to a bar of soap. One person told me they thought bars of soaps were unhygenic

Yes that's true one of my co-worker said she thinks soap bar was fully of bacteria and skin cells

I have come up against the hygenic issue with some family members too. My mother in law will use my soap next to the kitchen sink but in the loo she has store bought antibac stuff. It makes me shudder when I have to use the SLS filled stuff now as it makes my hands feel so bad. I am fiddling with making her liquid soap now. I got a nice consistency when it was plain, but it all fell apart when I tried adding scent. One FO turned it burgundy pink and the EO's make it go really thin. I'll get there in the end though!

You right about that they have always a think hygiene. I can't understand since I was young I never use liquid I always use bar. I hate anti-bac because it kills the good bacteria too that protect your health.

People never think of it, but the bottle and pump of liquid soaps gets dirty as well.

All things considered, I'd rather use the bar. Very few bacteria are going to survive that pH or that density of salt ions. If it really bothers them, always rinse off the soap itself after using it.

Yes that's what I told every time but unfortunately due to new fad today like the shower gel and liquid hand soap it seems the old tradition it's not easy to revive. People need more education about the harmful chemicals from the store bought toiletries that may cause cancer and some mental issues.
