I made some hp soap that was "baby powder" scent, i put some blue color in it, now its turning brown on the ends, whats up w that? Is it the color(cheap stuff from michaels)???

FWIW...
I would venture that maybe it's the fragrance. I have used the cheap stuff from michaels in HP before & the only colors that blue ever turned was a pukey purpley grey when I added it too soon & a bright turquoise when I added right before I put it in the mold. Also beware of the fragrances from michaels. They're pretty pricey for the size that you get & since they don't have a flashpoint labeled, it's a guessing game as to when you incorporate them. Add them too soon & they're gone before you're batch is in the mold. Also, what smells nice now, won't have any smell at all in a few weeks. I used the plumeria FO from michael's in one of my batches I did last month (HP). Smelled REALLY strong to begin with, now it's just a faint hint of scent. Same goes with most of the "essential oils" from michaels. the quality just isn't there. However, I have had some success with them in MP. The scent tends to last a little longer, probably because no lye & little heat. The colors will bleed in both HP & MP.
Just my $.02 worth...

I have had the same problem with baby powder scent. I used it in CP teddies and coloured them a light blue but after the gell the cameout yucky brown with darker points. I now call the 'poo'h bears

I think most Baby Powder fragrance oils are made with a little vanilla. That's going to make it turn tan/beige at least, if not dark brown.

i didnt buy my fragrance from michaels, ive been burned on that before, it just doesnt work! This was a fragrance from naturesgarden!

Any scent with vanilla in it (and many baby powder scents do) is going to turn your soap some shade of brown where it is exposed to light. Such is the joy of vanilla. You can buy a "vanilla modifier" (I think Bitter Creek North has one) but I"ve not liked the soap after).

Whether it's a top notch fragrance company or the cheap stuff - vanilla goes brown.

(BTW - the fragrance oils from Michael's and such are probably not terribly stable in a highly alkaline situation like CP soap - they are designed for MP - so while they might work many won't hold up in CP soap anyway. But that's not your problem - it's the vanilla that adds the creamy note to the fragrance.)

its browning on the edges like its rotting, the whole thing isnt discoloring, is that what vanilla does?

some soaps with vanilla will turn brown instantly some it takes time. i have had some bars the exact middle that were not brown yet.

instead of it working its way out from the middle, like a gelling soap would the browning takes effect just the opposite and works it way toward the middle from the outside.

Ditto what Deda said, baby powder fragrance combines vanilla, rose and something else.... forget what now.
