I was wondering what i could use as a partition for my soap as a newbie? Could i use a heavy cardstock? The design i have in mind would pull the partition out as soon as the soap is poured. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have used cardboard wrapped in plastic wrap or freezer paper, so that I can re-use it. Depending on how heavy your cardstock is, you may be able to use it as well, but the weight of the soap could cause thinner paper to bend or bow.

Card stock isn’t heavy enough. If you have a cardstock pad hanging around, use the cardboard at the back of the pad.

I agree that cardstock isn't stiff enough to work well. Cardboard or other fairly stiff material is the way to go.

Another thing is to pour the batter evenly on both sides of the partition. Don't expect the partition, even if it's stiff, to stay in place with a lot more soap batter on one side than the other. Also pouring a little bit on one side and then on the other will help keep the batter where it belongs -- it won't be as likely to leak around the partition.

Packaging cardboard (the corrugated sort used in bigger boxes), is strong and holds well.

Paint the sides and bottom of the partition with (melted) hard fat or wax to "glue" it in place temporarily, for the start of the pour. Once the partition is surrounded by soap batter, it doesn't shift unless the batter does (if you tilt the soap, it can move).

Mini bulldog clips (clipped onto the mold, placed either side of the cardboard at both ends) help keep the partition fixed in the right location. The cardboard will slip straight up - the clips act like a guide as you remove the partition.
