Hey everyone! My name is Paul and I'm new to soap making. I've always been interested in chemistry, and watching too many episodes of Breaking Bad finally did me in. I needed to create something. Deciding that Walt's path was far too laden with doom and mouthy sidekicks, when I stumbled across an article about making homemade soap I realized I had found what I was looking for. I'm a nerd through and through, so I've been doing a ridiculous amount of reading and research. I've finally gotten all the supplies and equipment for my first batch, so that will be forthcoming. I'm sure I'll keep you all posted...

It is fun to make soap (and other body products) from a scientific perspective...that is what got me interested in the first place! I have degrees in physics and math, and I studied a fair amount of chemistry along the way
. I think that people who look at soap making from a chemical perspective often have more successful batches when they are starting out, so good for you!
If you have questions, ask away, and don't forget to post pictures of your batches!

There's nothing nerdy about doing research before you make your first batch. Also, there is still the possibility of doom and mouthy sidekicks making an appearance in soapmaking.

Welcome Paul! I was one of those who hated chemistry in school and barely squeaked by with a passing grade, but soapmaking has changed all that for me like nothing else could. Yep- sooner or later soapmaking makes nerds of us all- even artysy-fartsy types like me.
