has anyone ever made their own? if so how did u go about making it.
i am talking about log and slab

I would so love a wooden tog. But for now, I am using a few boxes I line with butcher paper . They are 12 long and 4 wide and deep. Just right for my 3 lb batches I make.

I wanted to also say I got those boxes at a postal store if you were wanting to ck for something like that.

Thanks for the wish for my TOG Molds! May your wish come true.
Oak is fine to use, but really expensive. I use a knot-free, premium, hard pine for all TOG Molds.

Paul

i am just researching soapmaking, do not know much about it. however, some woods leach toxins. could not find the web site i use to check for this. i am a wood worker and soem people have allergic reaction to the saw duct of some woods.

again, i do not know if the toxins would leach out of soap molds but i would do some research.

thanks david

David, wood molds must be lined (or at the very least sealed) to keep the soap from sticking so I don't think that's it. Interesting thought though.

My husband tried to make me a soap cutter out of oak, but whenever I do the wood turns black. Any ideas as to what causes this? Reaction to lye?

*Waiting for the UPS man* I'll be getting my TOG mold and bevel today!! I wish the UPS man would put the petal to the metal and hurry up!! I have my milk mixture frozen and I'm ready to go!! :D
