I get a lot of benefit from aqua aerobics, but I find that gym pools always go very heavy on the chlorine. It always makes my skin super dry and I'm sensitive to the chlorine. Plus the lingering smell - bleh. I use lotion of course but I want a good soap as well.

I want to make a soap for myself designed to help neutralize the chlorine or at least get it the heck off/cover it with a more pleasing smell.

Suggestions?

The first suggestion is to shower the pool water off just as soon as humanly possible. Secondly, I would actually put lotion on before going into the water to try to seal it out somewhat.

Now, onto what you actually asked...lol. Any soap with a high conditioning number and a pleasant scent should do the trick.

I have found a good slather of whipped shea butter works wonders before getting in the pool. The butter creates a barrier so my skin doesnt soak in so much of the chlorine. I spent a day at the waterpark once, not a dry spot in site after hours of swimming.

My high school aged son is on the swim team and he likes to use my lotion bars to keep his skin from drying. Lotion bars are fabulous. As far as a soap recipe goes, I'm sure a good conditioning soap with essential oils helps (and my son uses the soap I make too), but I think the addition of some kind of barrier is what really helps the battle with the pool chemicals.
Cheers!

Okay, I'm just speaking from a swim team that buys my emulsified sugar scrubs all winter/summer long. They swear it keeps their skin from drying out and it also removes the chlorine smell. It all started with one young lady who like the smell of it and it exploded from there. Now the entire team purchases it.
